Easy-Laser® launches a free app for the XT290 Digital Level. Using the Precision Level app, an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch can be used as a separate display to follow the adjustment. Alignment is therefore more efficient because there is no need to move back and forth between the level and the machine adjustment points.

You would probably think it foolish to have work done on the front end of your car and not have the alignment checked and if necessary adjusted. If the front end is out of alignment the car would start to vibrate, sometimes excessively, right up the steering column into your hands.
Recently, some employees were sent to Sweden to get some additional product training on geometric laser measurement and vibration measurement. The first stop was Easy-Laser headquarters just outside of Gothenburg.
Summer is upon us and hopefully the livin’ is easy! For some in the mechanical maintenance world the summer time is a slow time; for others, it’s go go go. For instance, in cement plants they have their maintenance shut down in the winter months when it’s slow because their summer is full steam ahead for production. No matter what industry you’re in, one of your pressing problems is making sure that you have adequate maintenance coverage or man-power over the vacation period.
Our first new MAAD Training session kicked off last week with some great feedback from the participants. For most it was “much better” then expected. One participant said, “I can’t wait for the next opportunity to use this new information!” Our next Training session is in June. Recently, BENCHMARK PDM trainers were called to go a couple of hours northeast to a Utilities company that needed some on-site training for an Easy-Lasershaft alignment tool purchased not long ago. Usually, “on the job” or “on-machine” training sessions only aren’t offered because it is hard to teach each tradesperson, mechanic or millwright the specifics of the shaft alignment tool and then do it real-time with them retaining all of the information in a potentially noisy industrial setting, especially for a larger group.
Most of us have heard enough about Reactive, Preventive, and Predictive Maintenance practices. Well how about Insane Maintenance? Yes that’s right, Insane Maintenance. You see, a definition of insanity is “to do the same thing over and over and to expect a different result”. If you think about it, do we – in the maintenance world – repair equipment only to have it breakdown again and again? How many bearings will be replaced this year in say an industrial area such as Fort McMurray Alberta – the center of Canada’s oil? Or say Sarnia Ontario, known as the chemical valley? To be honest, I don’t know but an educated guess would be in the millions.
Over the last month or so, Mike Kruis – the Lead Service Technician at KSB Pumps Canada – has been traveling around Ontario to various customers that have their pumps installed at their facilities. These pumps are being newly installed or re-installed after having some work done on them. When the pumps are installed Mike uses his Easy-Laser E710 system to align the pumps shaft to the motors or moveable machines shaft. Below are just a few comments from Mike and also some of the feedback he’s received over the past month or two.

It’s always nice to mix business with pleasure. BENCHMARK PDM and Durham College have been working together for some time over the years on different training sessions with their students, such as teaching shaft to shaft laser alignment. In a recent case, a great opportunity presented itself to train some of the Durham instructors on the difference between using an optical measuring tool (they usually use) and their own geometric laser measurement tool
