Easy-Laser® E710 Programs

Horizontal Machines - The measuring units (S and M) are mounted on each side of the coupling with cable or wireless communication to the display unit. Horizontally coupled machines often consist of a pump and motor, but there can also be other types of machine such as a gearboxes and compressors.
 

Vertical/Flange-Mounted Machines - Alignment of vertical and flange-mounted machines. Shows centre offset, angular error and shim value at each bolt.
 

Cardan/Offset-Mounted Machines - Alignment of cardan/offset mounted machines. (Accessory Cardan fixture, Part No. 12-0615 is required.)
 

Softfoot Check - Start the alignment work by performing a soft foot check to ensure the machine is resting evenly on all its feet. This is necessary for a reliable alignment. The program shows which foot (feet) should be corrected. After the soft foot check you can go directly to the alignment program with all of the machine’s distances saved.
 

EasyTurn™ Function - With the EasyTurn™ function you can start measurement anywhere on the turn. Turn the shafts with the measuring units to three positions in any direction with as little as 20° between to register the measurement value and your measurement is complete!
 

Thermal Growth Compensation - The Thermal Growth Compensation function allows the measurement system to calculate the correct shims and adjustment values when the machines (for example a pump and motor) expand considerably from a cold to a hot state (operating temperature).
 

Tolerance Check - Checks the offset and angle values towards a selected tolerance. Shows graphically when the alignment is within tolerance.
 

Reference Foot Locking - This function allows you to lock any pair of feet on the machine. This gives great freedom when aligning bolt-bound machines.
 

Measurement Value Filter - Advanced electronic filter function for accurate measurement results, even in bad measuring conditions like air turbulence and vibration.
 

Live-Any-Angle 360° - Allows adjustment of the machines live with the measuring units positioned anywhere around the shaft. Good for when machine parts prevent normal adjuster positioning.
 

Three Pairs of Feet / Pair of Feet in Front - The software can handle machine design of all types: two pairs of feet, three pairs of feet, pair of feet before the coupling, etc.
 

Belt & Chain (Sheave/Pulley) Alignment - Using the system you can align sheaves and pulleys with digital precision. Adjustment of the machines is displayed in real time on the screen, with readings for angle and axial displacement in both the vertical and horizontal axes, as well as an adjustment value for the front or rear foot pair. The result can be documented as normal. (Requires the E170 BTA accessory.)
 

Vibration Measurement and Bearing Condition - You can measure vibration levels (mm/s, inch/s) and bearing condition (g-value). The program guides the user through the points to measure on the machine: vertical, horizontal and axial. The result can be documented as normal. (Requires the E285 Vibrometer probe accessory.)
 

Check Bearing Play - All our measurement systems come with the extremely useful Values program. The program can be used e.g. when one wants to measure as with dial gauges and to check bearing play. With the standard equipment and completely normal set up on the machine!
 

Flatness Measurement of Bases - With the Values program you can, in principle, measure any type of geometry, for example flatness and twist of the base. If you add a separate laser transmitter such as Easy-Laser® D22 you extend the area of application even more. Many Easy-Laser® users therefore end up using the measurement system in more places in their operation than they first intended!

Barcode Reader

The barcode reader is used to enter the machine data before measurement. At the first measurement of the machine apply the adhesive bar code label. Next time the machine is checked the dimensions are read in directly. Connected in the USB port.

Belt & Chain Alignment

E170 BTA

Part No.: 12-0659

With the Easy-Laser® E170 you can read and follow the alignment from where you are standing and make adjustments, instead of only where the detector is mounted. The detector reads off the position in relation to the laser plane and digitally displays the parallel and angular misalignment “live”. This makes alignment of the adjustable machine very easy. The accuracy of the reading means that you can be within the prescribed alignment tolerances and rely upon the result. Suitable for most types of belt drives, such as V-belt, timing belt, flat belt and chain drives.

Notes: There is no separate display unit included or available. The detector connects to the E418 display unit with BTA program, which for example is included in system E710. For connection the red cable of the main system is used. Wireless connection is not available. The E170 detector unit cannot be connected to the D-series display units or other equipment.

D22 Swivel Laser Transmitter

Can be used to measure flatness, straightness, squareness and parallelism. The laser beam can sweep 360° (1) with a measurement distance of up to 40 m [130’] in radius. The laser beam can also be angled 90° to the sweep (2), within 0.01 mm/m [0.5 mils/thou].

Easy-Laser® E710 Applications

Horizontal Shaft Alignment

The most common shaft to shaft alignment is horizontal alignment.

With the older D-Series (PHOTO - right), Easy-Laser® offered two programs for this, one is thestandard Horizontal Program that takes shaft measurements at the 9, 12, 3 o’clock positions. The other is EasyTurn™: a program that allows you to take readings with as little as 40 degrees rotation of the shafts, starting anywhere in the rotation. This is a great advantage when rotation is restricted because of piping and other factors. 

With the new E-Series line of Easy-Laser systems we have actually made it easier!

The new wireless E-Series systems (PHOTO - below right) still offer the 9, 12, 3 o’clock method as well as EasyTurn method but now have added the Multi-point method which allows you to take multiple measurements. The more information you give (by taking measurements), the more accurate the result. It comes with a Quality Assessment scale to show you the qualtiy of the measurements (see PHOTO below middle left).

The process is just as easy with the E series systems. Again the display prompts you though the process. First you attach the measuring units to the shafts. Input the distances into the display unit (PHOTO - top left)  ie. the distance between the measuring units, the distance to the centre of the coupling and the distances to the front and back feet of the movable machine. You even have the option to add the coupling diameter if you want to see a gap result. Record three measurements (PHOTO - middle left) using a minimum 40° of rotation for EasyTurn method, 9-12-3 o'clock method, or Multipoint method) and the display will show all the results both graphically and digitally on the screen. This screen (PHOTO - bottom left) is showing that it is reading live in the vertical plane. The green plus signs are tell the operator to add shim under the feet. To have it read live in the horizontal plane you simple rotate the measuring units to either the 3 or 9 o’clock position. If you can't get to either of those postions becuase of restrictive movement, you can force it live anywhere on the shaft.

Some laser systems like you to take measurements as you rotate the shaft. This is because they are more susceptible to back lash in the coupling. Other laser systems focus on speed. This is not an advantage for you-- the end user-- because if you think about it, it’s not a race. The goal is accuracy not speed of rotation. And ask your self if you have a better chance at hitting a moving target or a stationary one? 

Many of you have used dial indicators to do alignment work. So you will know that the greater the distance between the dial indicators the more accurate the reading when you are doing the Reverse Dial method. With Rim and Face method the greater the distance between measurement the greater the accuracy. And so it is with laser systems: the greater the distance between the detectors, the more stable and accurate the reading. 

All Easy-Laser® systems use dual beam technology. With dual beam lasers, the accuracy depends on distance A. Which is the distance between the detectors. The greater the distance, the greater the accuracy. With the single beam system, the possible accuracy depends on distance B between the detectors. 
 
This distance is usually very short because both detectors are mounted in the same housing (normally about 50 mm). In reality, with the measurement units installed on each side of a coupling, distance A is, in most cases, always longer than distance B. [1: housing, 2: laser LED, 3: detector, 4: laser beam]. 
 
How accurately do you have to align Horizontal machine setups?
The required accuracy depends mostly on the types of machines you have and the speed. However, it is important to refer to the machine’s or component manufacturer’s specifications regarding this.

The coupling manufacturer specifies that their couplings can handle an large amount of mis-alignment means, nothing regarding how accurately you need to align. This flexibility is to compensate for offset settings and forces during the start-up phase. We think the coupling information is misleading so if anything use the machine manufactures specification or the standard chart below.

The speed of the shaft will determine the alignment tolerance. A machine running at 1725 RPM should have an offset betweem 2.0 and 4.0 mils or thou and an angular error of between 0.5 and 0.8 mils or thou per inch.

If the machine is running  at 3600 RPM the tolerance would be between 1.0 and 2.0 mils or thou for the offset and 0.3 to 0.6 per inch for the angular error.
